Baylor University is the only member of the Big 12 Conference that is a private university.
Five athletes with ties to Baylor competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics.
Jeremy Wariner, who is a volunteer assistance coach at Baylor, won a silver medal in the 400m and a gold medal in the 4 x 400m relay.
Bayano Kamani competed in 400-meter hurdles for Panama.
Darold Williamson, an Olympic gold medalist as the anchor of the 4x400-meter relay in 2004, and Reggie Witherspoon, along with Wariner, were in the 4x400-meter relay pool for the United States, which won the gold medal.
In addition, Sanya Richards, who trains under Baylor Coach Clyde Hart, but is not a Baylor student, also competed in the 400m.[1]
