Lehmkuhle grew up near St. Louis and won Missouri state high school titles in track and cross country his senior year. He was a scholarship runner at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, where he was an All-American in the 5000m and 10,000m. His best during college included a 13:59 in the 5000 and 28:44 in the 10,000 which qualified him to compete in the 2000 Olympic Trials in the 10,000 meters. He graduated in 2000.

Lehmkuhle joined Team USA Minnesota in 2001.

Lehmkuhle_1.jpg In 2003 he won the Cow Harbor 10k 29:53. Lehmkuhle made his marathon debut at the Chicago Marathon in 2:18:24. He then finished 9th overall at the 2004 U.S. Men's Olympic Marathon Trials with a personal best time of 2:16:27. Jason qualified for the U.S. Track & Field Trials in the 10,000 with a time of 28:26.

In 2005, he placed 3rd in the USA Men's Half Marathon Championships, he was 5th at the USA 12k Cross Country Championships to become a member of the 2005 U.S. World Cross Country team. He was a member of the U.S. World Marathon team that finished 4th in Helsinki. He was also a member of the U.S. World Half Marathon team.

In 2006, Lehmkuhle waas 3rd at the USA 10 Mile Championships and at the Outdoor National Championships he finished 5th in the 10,000m. At the Guidant 10k, Jason set a Minnesota state record time of 29:02. At the USA 20k Championships he finished 5th in a personal best time of 59:55, and at the USA Marathon Championships at Twin Cities, Jason placed 7th.

In 2007, Lehmkuhle began his competitive year by placing 5th at the USA Half Marathon Championships with a personal best time of 1:02:51. At the USA Cross Country Championships he finished 9th in the 12k. In March, at the USA 15k Championships he was 5th in 44:17 and on July 4th at Peachtree, he was 4th in the USA 10k Championships in a personal best road time of 28:54. At the 20k Championships on Labor Day, Jason finished 3rd. He then won the Cow Harbor 10k on Sept. 15. At the USA 10 Mile Championship, he was second in a personal best time of 47:48 (previous best was 49:19). Jason finished fifth at the USA Men's Olympic Marathon Team Trials held in New York City on Nov. 3 in a personal best time of 2:12:54 (previous best was 2:16:27).

In 2008, Lehmkuhle finished 2nd in the USA Half Marathon Championships in a personal best time of 1:02:32 and was selected for the U.S. team that competed at the World Half Marathon Championships in Brazil. At the ING New York City Marathon, Jason finished 8th in 2:14:30.

In 2009, Lehmkuhle finished 8th at the USA 15k Championships and was a member of the winning team at the Jacksonville 15k.

His BA degree is in graphic design, and he does freelance graphic design work. He also coaches for coach for Edina High School in Edina, MN. On August 10, 2007, he married Kristen Nicolini who also runs for Team USA Minn.
