James Noel Carroll "Jim" Alder (1940-) is a Scotish marathon runner.
He set a new world record for 30,000m of 1:34:01.8 in 1964. In that race he also set world records for 20,000m (1:40:58.0) and 2 hours (37,994m). The IAAF did not recognize the latter two marks for world records, but they were accepted as United Kingdom national records. He missed the 1964 Summer Olympics due to a knee injury.
He won the gold medal at the 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games marathon. He did not finish the 1968 Summer Olympics marathon in Mexico City. He also competed at the the 1969 European Championships in Athens.
Alder ran his last Marathon in The 1970 British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh. In September 1970, in London, he set a new record for 30,000m of 1:31:30.4s which still stands today.[1]
