A metric marathon is a road race that is 26.2 kilometers (16.4 miles) long. (In comparison, a regular marathon is 42 kilometers or 26.2 miles long.) This distance has been popular in the Mid-Atlantic area, with such races conducted by the Howard County Striders, Annapolis Striders and the DC Road Runners Club. The fastest recorded metric marathon was run by Peter Dougharty in 1999 with a 1:30:13.
