The Universiade is an International multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The name is a combination of the words "University" and "Olympiad". The Universiade is often referred to in English as the World University Games or World Student Games; however, this latter term can also refer to competitions for sub-University grades students, as well.

2015 Universiade Candidate Cities

  • Hamburg, Germany, Poznań, Poland and Edmonton, Canada have expressed interest in hosting the 2015 Summer Universiade. It is not out of the question to have bids from cities in Spain and South Korea.

It is unlikely either Canadian city will be successful in bidding because of the Canadian government's policy of hosting one multi-sport event during the decade. The government has decided instead to support Toronto's bid to host the 2015 Pan American Games.
